Men's Mental Health Needs More Attention

No matter the age or gender, anyone can face mental health issues. Men can struggle too, but often try to tough it out by themselves or deny that there is an issue to begin with. Embarrassment and self-stigmatization are preventing men from seeking help or speaking to someone. Ignoring or minimizing men's mental health can take a serious toll on their lives. That is why the Hearts Wide Open Podcast is creating a safe space for men to open up and learn that all humans can struggle and that they're not alone.

#10 What Surfer Mentality Can Teach Us

Soroosh and Dennis went on vacation together, but an active one with intentions. So they set themselves the following goals:

  1. Let's go on an active holiday
  2. Let's limit social media and phone usage
  3. Let's connect with each other, but also connect with strangers like you would on a solo trip

In this episode they unpack how all this went and much more. They discuss the challenges they faced, the learnings they brought back home and share their biggest highlights and some beautiful moments that emerged from pursuing these intentions/goals.

Movember Distance Award Winner Anil Toraty is embarking on an incredible challenge this November, as he has committed to run 600km throughout the month to support men's mental health through his #Movember600 campaign. We discuss why and how he pushed his boundaries last year, running 465km and raising over £20,000. Anil is going at it again this year to raise awareness and funds for men's mental health, this time running 600km. We explore how endurance sports like running can be a powerful tool for managing mental health. Tune in to hear Anil's remarkable journey and the profound impact of using physical challenges to cope with mental well-being.

#08 You Don't Have To Be So Strong

In this conversation we dive deep into the topic of support systems. We explore the journey of finding, defining, and utilizing your support system to navigate life's challenges.

For far too long, the stigma surrounding masculinity has pressured men to bear their burdens alone, to be strong without vulnerability. But the truth is, we all need support, especially during difficult times.

Hearts Wide Open helped me realize that I want to be more in touch with myself. This will help me be more authentic and connect with others around me on a whole new level.

Larissa

"I Can Buy Myself Flowers" made me aware that I rarely cherish myself for who I am. I couldn't stop thinking about this and so for the first time in a long time I took action to consciously appreciate myself. The topics Soroosh and Dennis talk about in their conversations are so relevant and really have an impact on my life.

Niels

The episode on vulnerability triggered a thought process in me and helped me understand that there can be strength in showing vulnerability and what that can mean for me. Keep blessing us with these thought-provoking episodes.
